Only a year has passed since the Junction’s self-titled debut release hit shelves across the country, and yet the threesome from Brampton, Ontario, is already settling into a self-induced state of hibernation in order to prepare for their much-anticipated sophomore album. Bassist Matt Jameson recently took some time from his rigorous jamming schedule to tell me about the progress the band has made.
"It’s going well," he says in a phone interview, "It’s something that we’ve just got to shift into. We’ve been recording ourselves weekly and trying to make demos. We’ve got a lot of new ideas." They are currently shopping the demos around in the hopes of finding the right producer.
In terms of genre, Jameson describes the Junction as a group that tries not to limit themselves to any one category. Their first album was a mish-mash of jazz, pop and rock-and-roll, and hopefully the second will follow suit, though Jameson tells me that it’s "more in the rock vein. In terms of the sound, it’s just us striving to make what we’ve done before better. We like to think that it’s more mature, cohesive and focused. I think we’re evolving. Hopefully people will gravitate towards our music."
As for now, the band is focusing on achieving their goal of an international release, so they’re "taking shows sparingly," so make sure you see if them if you get the chance because the album won’t be out anytime soon. "We hope to have it out by the fall," Jameson says, "We’re trying to work at a faster pace, but if it sounds rushed, we’re going to put in that extra time."
